Low carb diets are NOT rubbish! Especially if you cut out sugar and high fructose corn syrup as suggested above. Since you used the "rubbish" adjective, I assume you’re a Brit. I don’t think that you have the same issue with HFCS being in everything where you live.

Since you really only get fat on carbs and sugar, reducing them and sticking with lean protein is the answer. Also, realize that quality fats (coconut, nuts in general, Omega 3 fats) are healthy for you and won’t make you gain weight.

Consider a protein shake with a quality whey protein or rice protein as a great source of protein.

Well a diet has to be balanced; so try mixing it up a bit! Have some fruit and avoid taking snacks all the time. Find another healthy alternative for sweets eg. making a fruit salad or maybe even a delicious salad! Avoid things like mayo cause they have quite a lot of fat… Hope This Helped! :]

What worked for my mom was just avoiding high fructose corn syrup and partially hydroginated vegetable oil.

(I realize that that wasnt the answer to your question, sorry)

Actually, you don’t need to diet per se if you want to lose weight, I read this at the web resource in the box below, they have loads of guidance, I lost 6 pounds by following their helpful advice.

There’s no way to be "no carb" as a vegetarian, unless you plan on eating nothing but mushrooms and macadamia nuts.
but if you say "no carb" to mean eliminating refined grains and sugars, then just eat the lower glycemic veggies and legumes, and leave out the bread, cereal, pasta, rice, peas, corn, and potatoes.
Eat cooked beans and lentils in small amounts, and fill up on green leafy veggies, and add some colorful veggies too, like red bell peppers, yams, blueberries and such. Drink milk if you’re inclined, but be careful with things like honey, bananas, and all really sweet fruits. They have more natural carbohydrates.

Salads may be cliche but if you know how to make a good one, they’re super tasty. A cobb or chef salad with tofu or tofurky instead of turkey is good (iceburg lettuce may have fewer nutrients in it but I prefer the crunch). A southwest salad with black beans (add tofu-based "meat", like chopped Garden Burgers or Boca Burgers for more protein), pepperjack cheese, tortilla strips, and chunky salsa is good too.

For breakfast you should look at Amy’s brand Tofu Scramble (it’s a frozen meal with a tofu/veggie mix and hashbrowns, which tastes great with reduced sugar ketchup). I don’t know if vegtarians eat egg whites but you could scramble those up with chopped veggies, tofu sausage, cheese, etc…

Hope this helps or at least sparks your imagination.

    Good luck!
